This is no ordinary project management position – this is a brilliant and newly created opportunity for a senior level, dedicated Programme Manager to play an instrumental role in a thriving social research team within a global agency. Due to phenomenal growth in their European policy evaluation work over the last year, the agency is looking for a project management specialist to lead on the set up and management of high profile programmes on this side of the business.
The current team is 20 strong, including evaluation specialists, economists and social policy researchers; they use applied research to provide evidence on the impact and effectiveness of public policies, programmes and interventions and to draw conclusions and provide recommendations to help set policy priorities, improve effectiveness and strengthen delivery. They work on all areas of public policy; in the UK they work with central government and government departments eg. Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Department for Transport, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, and over the last 2 years, their European work has been increasing; a lot of their work comes from the European Commission; they work with the likes of the UN, international aid organisations, and international institutions such as the World Bank.
With such a successful team in place, a substantial increase in the number of projects coming through, and an increase in the size of the projects, there is now the need for a brilliant Programme Manager who can work alongside this specialist team to ensure that the programmes are planned, managed and delivered to the very highest standards. These projects are large and ‘multi stranded’ (eg. surveys, desk research, qual); each strand is a sizeable project in its own right, so the SPM will be the lynchpin that holds it all together, ensuring that each phase of the project and its delivery is running according to plan, in terms of budget and timescale.
Previous evaluation experience is absolutely critical to the success of this role. Someone who is used to working on large scale evaluation programmes and understands the meticulous planning and management involved to ensure the successful outcome of the evaluations. It could be that you are currently working in a similar role and want to move to a bigger, higher profile agency; or you could be an evaluator who thrives in the planning, set up and management stage – either way – we need an influencer and a leader who can work with evaluations teams, guiding and advising them through the meticulous planning, set up and management of these studies.
