If you are an established project management specialist looking for a new and different challenge – or if you are a researcher who loves and wants to focus on the project management side, this is a very exciting new role. It combines fascinating and important international social research with the opportunity to set up project management in a highly successful team, in an organisation which is putting real impetus behind PM – so there is a very clear career path for you going forward.
This is one of the most prestigious, highly regarded social research teams in London and this part of the team runs their international work. Spanning global and European governments, agencies and public and private sector organisations, the work they undertake is broad as it is critical. Current programmes include looking at the issues faced by minority groups across challenging markets over a 5-year period. Speaking to people who face horrific discrimination every day, this study helps to inform global and country leaders on these very important issues. For an NGO focused on fighting poverty and promoting prosperity, they run a high-profile multi-country project to identify the views of very senior stakeholders and business leaders around business finance, the business environment, challenges they are facing, what they see as opportunities. And for another organisation, they look at issues around personal security, violence and specifically violence towards women in order to inform policy.
The team is doing very well and have identified that bringing in project management expertise will help them become more efficient and effective. Initially this will be a standalone role supported by people in the research team who do project management as part of their roles and project managers in other countries (where the research is taking place). Ultimately, the aim is that this person will grow a team – this has happened successfully in other teams in the organisation where they have introduced PM specialists.
Because this is a new role, the client is open candidates at RM or AD level. You must have honed PM skills either from a pure PM role or from a research role. Because of the nature of the work carried out by the team it is important you must have experience of running face to face, phone and online programmes. We need someone who is at home the detail (including DP, sampling methods etc) and can ensure that the detail is being delivered by the individual countries running programmes. This is a client facing role so you need to enjoy client contact.
This is a high performing, forward thinking and innovative agency full of smart, dynamic, impressive – and genuinely nice – people. Their ethos is about creating quality work for clients and this focus really pays off in terms of their commercial performance – they are massively outperforming their competitors. It’s a stable culture – no constant restructures, no navel gazing, just a focus on delivering great work to clients. As part of this, they genuinely care about their staff and retention is very high. It is a fantastic place to develop your career and enjoy yourself along the way.
