This is a senior director role in the brand & comms arena with a focus on client engagement and team leadership. You will direct a portfolio of leading brands across tracking and campaign evaluation – these are super-brands of the highest order. The work is a mix of tracking and ad hoc – it is all very consultative: the focus is on getting to the heart of the client challenge and landing what the insight really means to clients and what they should do differently as a result of it. In addition, you will lead a team of bright and capable people so we need someone who is a natural leader, committed to developing their team and helping them succeed and progress.
You can expect to work with your clients in true partnership – clients are often longstanding and are engaged with, interested in and prepared to act on the research. So much so that opportunities to develop business abound; there have even been instances where the client is so committed to their account team that they have briefed them on work outside the brand & comms remit. In summary, these are very close client relationships: your point of view is listened to and you get to see the results of your work.
As well as the tracking work, there are lots of deep dives, ad hoc pieces, working alongside the qual team, with data scientists etc. You will very often be part of a cohesive multi-agency team, working alongside the creative and media agencies.
Innovation is key to this agency’s success: they have a real focus on, and put significant resource behind, ensuring they are at the very forefront of thinking – including developing new digital methodologies, experiential techniques and passive research technologies which help provide the most meaningful and accurate insight. Recent examples include developing passive measurement around digital ads, integrating social listening to survey data, using text analytics to determine what consumers really think about brands/the competitive set… As part of their very real commitment to driving thought leadership in the industry, there is the opportunity, should you wish, to take a high-profile role by speaking at conferences and client events, writing papers etc. The culture here is entrepreneurial and agile – everyone has the opportunity to take part in driving this innovation and change.
And a brilliant and highly regarded project management team work alongside the research team, running all aspects of project management, leaving the researchers free to focus on creating the best possible methodology and on the insight.
This is a highly successful agency and this team is performing especially well. Growth is being driven from both existing and new clients and there is a raft of potential new work on the horizon. This is a buoyant and exciting place to be – full of opportunity and positivity.
For this role, we need a credible and established Research Director who has experience leading major quant programmes – with a good understanding of brand & comms; someone with gravitas, a point of view who can add value to client thinking and who is used to working alongside senior stakeholders from client organisations. We need to see strong evidence of strategic thinking and client development. We also need a people-person with a dynamic, energetic approach – a high octane leadership style, someone who can role model to a sizeable team of brilliant researchers.
This is a high performing, forward thinking and innovative agency full of smart, dynamic, impressive – and genuinely nice – people. Their ethos is about creating quality work for clients and this focus really pays off in terms of their commercial performance – they are massively outperforming their competitors. It’s a stable culture – no constant restructures, no navel gazing, just a focus on delivering great work to clients. As part of this, they genuinely care about their staff and retention is very high – a recent hire at this level called it a “family atmosphere” where people get things done AND are happy at work.
