Associate Director: social research – focus on environmental policy and strategy – UK and international

This role offers the opportunity to work with clients on a wide range of areas related to environmental policy and strategy, including decarbonization, clean growth, low carbon innovation, climate risk awareness, climate change adaptation, behaviour change and public attitudes.

Much as experience in these areas would be ideal, the team are open to people with experience in other policy areas so long as there is a genuine interest – so this is an opportunity to focus on an area where you may have a real passion – and to make a difference to policy and strategic decisions.

This team works for a wide range of clients – government departments and agencies, EU bodies, philanthropic organisations, regulators and charities. Around 25% of their work is European/ international.

They work closely with the UK government and its agencies to help them design, deliver and evaluate policies in areas critical to the achievement of net zero, climate resilience, biodiversity… To give a flavour, recent projects include: a survey helping understand scale of shared natural resources and public attitudes in relation to them (this was in conjunction with an international government and some extremely high-profile public figures were involved in the commentary); research around industrial de-carbonisation; informing the national waste strategy; people’s perceptions of ocean health; a thought leadership piece around net zero living (they do lots of thought leadership) …

Members of the team told us they really enjoy being a part of research in real time – they are really able to see the impact and get involved as the issues unfold.

This is a very international team (with people from Ecuador, Brazil, Greece, Spain…) – they love this diversity. It is a very friendly, supportive, and ambitious team – there is a lot of autonomy (no micro-management!) and a really collaborative atmosphere where they are all ready and willing to help each other out. They also have a great social calendar!

This is a wide-ranging role – you will take responsibility for the overall delivery and quality of projects, design methods, oversee all aspects of the project lifecycle, sign off on projects, be involved in proposals and developing clients and you will manage a team.

This prestigious organisation team is well known and recognised for their robust methodologies, innovative approach and strategic outputs.  A highly innovative and forward-thinking environment, this is a place for people who love to take ownership and make things happen – you are given autonomy, with support to do just that. The people here are genuinely curious and interested in what they do. The training on offer is second-to-none and development opportunities, here and overseas should you wish, are huge.

As a result of all this, people stay – they talk about being challenged, consistently offered new opportunities, being listened to, and enjoying being in a culture where anyone at any level can have an opinion and lead on projects.
