This team design and manage some of the largest, most important government studies. These are high-profile, flagship longitudinal studies, many of which chart the lives of specific groups of people across all aspects of their lives, allowing policy makers to understand and improve life in Britain for key groups, now and in the future. Entirely quant focused, you would get to work across the entire life cycle of a project – and see the impact of your work.
Survey development is a key aspect of this role: how to make surveys work well, how to get people to take part in them and how to ensure they give the most accurate data. Much of the work is focused on experimenting with the surveys to ensure they give the best outcomes for the clients. Project management is also critical – keeping these large surveys on track, knowing what happens when and keeping things in check.
The role offers the opportunity to work on these huge studies – with all the challenge that goes with that. You will learn new skills from a team of experts (for example they have a hugely experienced Head of Sampling who is an expert in all things sampling and weighting) and from formal training, both in terms of technical training (R, Python, questionnaire development…) and also in terms of general training (management, client development etc.).
For this role, we are looking for someone who knows and is comfortable with data – someone who is able to quality assure data before it goes out and spot where things just don’t look right. We need to see experience of working with sizeable surveys and managing lots of moving parts. Ideally you will know how to run syntax (SPSS), or at least be able to pick up syntax someone else has done and know what to look for. You will need to understand sampling. You will have a willingness to learn, pick up and play with Python/R – exceptional training is offered in both. And you will need a track record of project management, being able to keep things moving and on track.
This is a very collaborative team of people who pull together across the board. A highly innovative and forward-thinking environment, this is a place for people who love to take ownership and make things happen – you are given autonomy and support to do just that. The people here are genuinely curious and interested in what they do. And as a result of all this, people stay – they talk about being challenged, consistently offered new opportunities, being listened to, and enjoying being in a culture where anyone at any level can have an opinion, be heard and lead on projects.
