Research Manager: quant/quant-focused mixed methods; policy and service research

Words people in this team use to describe the work include “real”, “impactful” and “fascinating”; they love the work because “it makes a massive difference”. You do not need to have experience of social research for this role – our client is very open to hearing from researchers on the commercial side who want to move across; a genuine interest is enough.

In short, the focus is on helping improve public services and policies by conducting research into the design of service delivery: how should services be designed and implemented – and also evaluating the impact of services and proposing changes – all to improve delivery and drive outcomes. This research impacts on people’s lives and makes a real difference, very often to the most vulnerable people.

You will find yourself working across a wide range of important policy areas (although if you have specific areas of interest in terms of policy areas, we would love to hear from you!). You might be looking at how to improve services across social care: protecting vulnerable young people and understanding what is happening on the ground in the care system; you might be looking at how to best encourage the development of young people; the team has done a lot of work around improving the safety of streets – including specific projects around promoting the safety of women at nights, as well as working to drive the effectiveness of the anti-drugs policy and related services.

This is a mixed methods team and for this role, we are looking for either a quantitative specialist who is happy to be trained in qual (this is mainly depths and also cognitive testing to ensure the surveys are understood) , or someone who has a mixed methods background with a quant focus. There is plenty of opportunity to get involved in wider qual studies including deliberative projects and ethnographic studies should you wish. You do need to have hands-on experience of running large-scale surveys and we are looking for someone who is already at Research Manager and who is looking for more challenge and autonomy.

In addition, we are looking for a strong team player with natural communication skills who is down to earth, creative and passionate about what they do. This is a fun, supportive, collaborative team of people who pull together. This is a place where people stay for the long term and develop themselves and their career; there is a commitment to learning and plenty of opportunity for progression.
