Research Manager; social research; quant or mixed methods; high profile programmes that make a difference

Working with key government departments, leading charities and think tanks, this role is in a team focused on health and social care including patient experience, health inequalities, social care, disabilities, mental health…their remit is broad. Ultimately their focus is to ensure their clients deliver their policies, campaigns, interventions and services more effectively.

In terms of the specifics, their work includes looking at the perceptions and experiences of patients to healthcare services: GP services, maternity services, emergency care etc in order to understand outcomes and improve the quality of these services. They work to understand the public perception of key healthcare services: who is using them, when and why, in order to inform policy and communications and to improve services – a recent project in this area focused on A & E services. And looking at unmet needs in key areas of health and social care in terms of prevalence, factors and impact on wellbeing – a recent project in this area focused on the care of older people.

This is all very important work which makes a difference to people’s lives. Their key audiences are the public, patients, professionals and wider stakeholders – including vulnerable people – it is very varied.

This role is client facing and you would be managing projects from start to finish (with appropriate support). The role can be either quantitative or mixed methods. You need a background in social research, excellent attention to detail and organisation skills, experience of writing questionnaires, good writing skills and to be a team player. You can expect to contribute to all aspects of the research programmes from design through to report writing – as well as to client development (again with support).
